Professional Team
Malcolm E. Polley, CFA President and Chief Investment Officer
Malcolm oversees the investment process and provides the philosophical underpinning for the Firm’s research and asset management.
Malcolm led the effort to form Stewart Capital Advisors, LLC, an SEC registered investment advisory subsidiary of S&T Bank.
Malcolm began his career in 1987 on Black Monday; and he has held leadership positions with many financial services organizations including S&T Wealth Management, Marquette Trust Company, Marquette Advisory Services, and West Bank.
Malcolm received a BBA in finance from Iowa State University. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and is a member and past president of the CFA Society of Pittsburgh. Malcolm has served as adjunct faculty at the Eberly College of Business and Technology at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Currently, he is president of Downtown Indiana.
Malcolm often presents to client, community and industry groups; and he has been a frequent guest on various financial and investment programs including Squawk Box, Squawk on the Street, Power Lunch, Closing Bell, Fox Business, Bloomberg TV and Bloomberg Radio. One of those appearances is quoted by Andrew Ross Sorkin in his bestselling book, Too Big to Fail.
Matthew A. DiFilippo, CFA Deputy Chief Investment Officer
Matt chairs the Investment Policy and Strategy Committee, guiding equity research and portfolio strategy decisions.
Matt focuses his research on healthcare and telecommunications, and he frequently contributes to research in technology. He oversees portfolio team members as they develop their unique opinions on investing opportunities and seek to build portfolio strategies on the basis of return prospects and business quality. As chair of the Investment Policy and Strategy Committee, Matt guides the work and decision-making that produces the Firm’s investment strategies.
Before joining Stewart Capital Advisors, Matt was employed with Mellon Bond Associates, Mellon Financial and Scottsdale Securities. Matt joined S&T Wealth Management in 2001 and was part of the original portfolio team that created Stewart Capital Advisors in 2005.
Matt earned his degree in business administration with a major in finance from Robert Morris University. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation, and he is a member of the CFA Institute and the Pittsburgh Society of Financial Analysts.
JP (John Paul) Weaver, CFA Director of Fixed Income
JP supports fixed income research and portfolio strategy decisions and works directly with clients to construct and to manage their investment portfolios.
JP’s research effort is focused on fixed income. With other members of the Investment Policy and Strategy Committee, JP’s work and decision making contribute to the Firm’s Investment strategies.
Before joining Stewart Capital in July 2017, JP was director of fixed income investments at McGlinn Capital Management, where he managed the fixed income practice. He also was a senior fixed income portfolio manager and director of fixed income research for the Evergreen Asset Management subsidiary of Wells Fargo Bank and was an investment officer and portfolio manager for the One Federal Asset Management subsidiary of Bank of America.
JP holds the Chartered Financial Analyst ® designation and is a member of the Philadelphia Society of Financial Analysts.
John Stoddart, CFP, CFA Vice President, Senior Portfolio Manager
John supports research and portfolio strategy decisions as well as works directly with clients to construct and manage their investment portfolios.
Prior to joining Stewart Capital Advisors in 2019, John worked for DNB First Wealth Management as Chief Investment Officer, overseeing all aspects of the investment function. His background is diverse in many aspects of the investment industry, where he served in capacity of shareholder relations, assistant treasurer and senior portfolio manager.
John received a bachelor’s degree in economics and an MBA from West Chester University of Pennsylvania. He holds the Charted Financial Analyst® designation. He is a Certified Financial Planner ® professional.
Nicholas J. Westrick, CFA Director of Research
Nick supports equity research and portfolio strategy decisions and works directly with clients to construct and to manage their investment portfolios.
Nick is the lead analyst for consumer discretionary and technology and often works closely on evaluations of telecommunications companies. With other members of the Investment Policy and Strategy Committee, Nick’s work and decision-making contribute to the Firm’s investment strategies.
Prior to joining Stewart Capital Advisors in 2011, Nick was employed as a credit analyst for S&T Bank, and he interned with Stewart Capital Advisors while he pursued his finance degree.
Nick received a bachelor’s degree in finance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He also has a bachelor’s degree in sociology from The Ohio State University. Nick holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation, and he is a member of the CFA Institute and the Pittsburgh Society of Financial Analysts. Nick holds an advisory series 65 license.
Matthew Himes Associate Portfolio Manager
Matthew supports portfolio strategy decisions and works directly with clients to construct and to manage their investment portfolios.
Matt is primarily responsible for the research and analysis of mutual fund investments and for the management of client accounts using mutual funds.
Prior to joining Stewart Capital Advisors in May 2022, Matt was employed as a customer service representative at S&T Bank.
Matt will graduate in May 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in finance and minor in accounting from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Tyler Howells Associate Portfolio Manager
Tyler supports portfolio strategy decisions and works directly with clients to construct and to manage their investment portfolios.
Tyler is primarily responsible for the research and analysis of mutual fund investments and for the management of client accounts using mutual funds.
Prior to joining Stewart Capital Advisors in May 2022, Tyler was employed as a customer service representative at S&T Bank.
Tyler will graduate in May 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in finance and minor in accounting from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Ashley L. Filapose Senior Investment Performance Analyst
Ashley leads the effort of performance measurement as per Global Investment Performance Standards.
Ashley is primarily responsible for the maintenance of marketed and non-marketed composites for the entire firm.
Ashley joined the firm in September of 2020 in the role of portfolio manager, where she supported portfolio strategy decisions and directly worked with clients to construct and to manage their investment portfolios.
Prior to joining Stewart Capital Advisors, Ashley was employed as an expediter at a local healthcare equipment company.
Ashley received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Seton Hill University.
Helena Rados-Derr Chief Operating Officer
Helena is responsible for all aspects of the Firm’s operations and client service.
Helena oversees compliance, investment operations, marketing, and client service.
She joined S&T in March 2005 and worked as a portfolio manager for 11 years with Stewart Capital Advisors. In 2016, she worked as trust investment manager with S&T Wealth Management, where she oversaw the delivery of Stewart Capital investment strategies to trust clients. She also has been instrumental in refining S&T Wealth Management’s compliance and risk management practices.
Alongside, Dr. Chaudry and Dr. Boldin, Helena published an econometric paper in Applied Financial Economics (Taylor & Francis Journals) in London, U.K. The paper focused on electric utilities during pre- and post-regulation era.
Helena earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and an MBA with a concentration in finance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
